Introduction and Background:

The Directorate of Quality Enhancement of the Virtual University of Pakistan is proud to organize a three-day workshop on 'AI in Education: Harnessing Technology for Enhanced Learning,' on July 22nd to 24th, 2024. in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and National Productivity Organization (NPO). The event is cohosted by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and is organized in The Smart Classroom, Academic Complex, AIOU, Islamabad.

This event aims to promote capacity building in technology-integrated innovative learning. The workshop will focus on understanding the fundamentals of AI, exploring the benefits of personalized learning, designing AI-driven learning experiences, and addressing ethical considerations in AI-based education.


Objectives:

  • Understanding the fundamentals of AI and its impact on Education
  • Exploring the concepts and beneļ¬ts of personalized learning
  • Designing and developing personalized learning experiences utilizing Al tools
  • Addressing ethical considerations in Al-based education

Resource Persons:

Dr. Akira Murata:

Completed PhD in Migration Studies (Economics) at the Sussex Centre for Migration Research, University of Sussex, UK. Utilized advanced applied quantitative/econometric analysis and household surveys to investigate migration and development, focusing on the impact of remittances on Filipino households. Specialties include Development Economics (e.g., poverty and inequality), Migration and Development (e.g., remittances, education), Migration Policies (e.g., brain drain, local job creation), and Advanced Econometric Methods (e.g., censored regression, instrumental-variable (IV) censored regression, bivariate probit and bivariate Tobit models, inequality decomposition using quantile regressions, panel data analysis). Additional training includes expertise in Artificial Intelligence applications in education, focusing on integrating AI to enhance educational outcomes and personalized learning experiences.

Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi:

Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi, Associate Professor with a Ph.D. in Education (Curriculum and Instruction), has over ten years of experience as Head of the Department of Elementary and Teacher Education at LCWU and leads the Active Citizen Center at DFDI. She has supervised over 45 MPhil and ten doctoral candidates, established numerous partnerships to enhance the B.Ed Elementary Education program, and contributed to initiatives like PERU, NAHE, HEDP, Pakistan Reading Project, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Sector Program. Dr. Kazi secured grants for professional development in Integrated STEAM Pedagogy and Gender Sensitization. An accomplished author, she has published extensively, designed technology-based curriculum tools, and promoted student success through TEDxLCWU and TED Countdown. Her research interests include English as a Foreign Language, Blended Learning, Teacher Professional Development, Assessment, Early Childhood Education, and Literacy.
