Two-Day International Workshop on
Assessment in E-Learning and Quality Assurance Challenges

July 05 & 06, 2021

VU organized a Two-day international workshop on “Assessment in E-Learning and Quality Assurance Challenges” from the platform of Directorate of Quality Enhancement (DQE) in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada on July 05-06, 2021. The participants were present online as well as in-person at VU Auditorium. Dr. Naveed A. Malik (Founding Rector VU and now Special Adviser Technology & Innovation, Commonwealth of Learning, Canada) joined the workshop as the Chief Guest online from Canada. Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti (Rector VU) delivered inaugural remarks. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Javed (Registrar & Director Quality Enhancement, Virtual University of Pakistan) thanked the audience and panelists for sparing time to attend the workshop. During inaugural remarks, Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti welcomed all the participants and panelists for gracing the event. Dr. Naveed A. Malik (Chief Guest) in his address highlighted the need and importance of online education in current pandemic and in any other uncertain situation. The workshop was further conducted by Dr. Nantha Kumar Subramaniam (Open University of Malaysia), Dr. Fakhar ul Inam (COMSATS University, Islamabad), Mr. Javed Younus (General Manager IT, Virtual University of Pakistan), Prof. Dr. Alam Saeed (University of Education, Lahore), Dr. Nasir Mahmood (Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad, Pakistan), Dr. Aisha Mahmood (University of Education, Lahore) and Dr. Sajid Yousuf Zai (Wah Cantt, Islamabad). The panelists shed light on the importance, challenges, opportunities and limitations of assessment in e-learning. They further discussed the emerging trends for assessment in e-learning. The participants got valuable insights about how to design effective assessment tools in e-learning. More than 500 participants from academia and Quality Enhancement Cells of other Universities participated in the event with their continued interest and zeal throughout the event with their exciting questions and concerns. In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Rector, Virtual University of Pakistan said that it was a successful event and he appreciated Directorate of Quality Enhancement for organizing such an amazing and informative workshop. He emphasized that such knowledge sharing sessions need to be organized frequently for capacity building of the faculty. He further advised due to paradigm shift in higher education, e-learning has gained momentum which requires assessment to be fair and objective.
